2. Introduction to Adobe Photoshop
(Two-day Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 August)

Adobe Photoshop is a brilliant image processing tool.  As the industry standard for professional photographers, it also opens up a world of possibilities for amateur and hobbyist photographers.  But its many menus, functions and terminology can appear baffling.  This introductory workshop aims to remove some of the mystery and complexity of Adobe Photoshop, showcase some of the magic, and give participants the confidence to use the tool to help their images to shine:

o   How to set up Photoshop to make it easy to use: preferences, settings, palettes, workspace

o   Using Adobe Camera Raw to pre-process files, and moving files to and from Lightroom

o   Basic corrections: cropping, straightening, levels, curves, colour, removing spots

o   Applying changes to selected areas: layers and layer masks, brushes and gradients, vignetting

o   Adding magic: creating depth, interest, light, blending modes

o   Finishing off: sharpening and saving for different uses

o   Looking after your digital photographs - cataloguing, naming, storing

The workshop is run over two days. You will need your own laptop with a recent version of Photoshop (ideally Photoshop CC 2019) on it.

3.  Print like a Professional! (On request)

Are all your photographs languishing on your computer, never to see the light of day?  Do you have a printer at home, but just can’t seem to get the results you want?  Have you been disappointed with the prints you get from chain store processing, but don’t know where else to go?  Have you tried a professional print lab, but couldn’t get past the jargon?

This workshop will give you the know-how to ensure you are able to get the quality you are looking for out of your photographic prints.  And you get to take a 16 x 20 inch print home with you!

This advanced workshop assumes you are comfortable with using Adobe Photoshop – e.g. you have completed at least one of our Photoshop courses. Topics include:

o   Understanding colour management – colour gamuts, calibration

o   Preparing print versions of files – resizing, resolution, sharpening, correcting for printing

o   Soft proofing and test printing

o   Papers

o   Printing options.

You will need to bring your own laptop with a recent version of Photoshop loaded on it – and an image you have already processed in Photoshop, which is ready for print processing.
